29 Nov 21 Started playing with new RAW editors over the weekend as the one in Affinity just doesn't cut the mustard. Today's submission started out by using the RAW editor in ON1Photoraw, one of the two RAW editors I played with, the other being Capture 1. With the ON1 product the RAW editor is just one piece of the software whereas Capture 1 is strictly a RAW editor. I'll keep you updated with what I learn. Still using Affinity Photo for the finish work, just need a much more sophisticated front end. The shot for today was one from the end my three weeks in Iceland and is one of the most frequented sites for tourists. You can attempt to pronounce the name of this canyon as Fjardargljufur isn't in my vocabulary. This is an ancient canyon supposedly dating back tens of thousands of years and it is quite picturesque, even in winter. For those of you who may want more info go here. On the afternoon of our visit the weather was iffy, snow starting and stopping, the trail to the top of the canyon mostly snow covered ice, and with my back giving me fits, I elected to walk only up to the first hump of rock. The trail to the top is way off to the right and then works its way all the way up. From there I understand the view is spectacular but I had to forgo that one. (The link gives you many more shots of the location and definitely worth a look.) You can see a couple of our group at the top, the little specs by the pointy rock. During our visit we didn't have a blue sky that I can remember and the file from the camera doesn't show any either, but the RAW editor said there was some there in the capture so I pulled out what there was. It wasn't a fully acceptable "pull" as you can see some haloing where the rocks meet the sky but I thought the tradeoff of totally blah sky vs blue sky with minimal halo acceptable although not ideal. I took this shot standing in the middle of a small car bridge looking up stream. If you happen to be one of those who use the Bing, Brave, or Dissenter browsers you no doubt have seen several photos of this canyon as all three use a lot of Iceland images as their wallpapers.
I've played with this a lot in the RAW editor so what you see is what was captured but not initially evident. Looking Upstream Nikon D500; 18 - 200; Aperture Priority; ISO 100; 1/80 sec @ f / 9.
