01 Dec 14. Listening to the radio as we always do at bedtime, well, all day long actually, I heard the DJ say Friday evening about a forecast snowfall of 3 inches overnight. I thought it was to be local but Jan said no, it was two counties away. Oh well, one can always hope. But one should also be careful of what it is they are hoping to receive, for the snowfall of 3 inches was indeed local, and it was a very heavy wet one that fell on top of three day of HEAVY rainfall that had the trees rather soaked with water already. The snowfall was accompanied by freezing temps (20s) which meant that the water on the trees froze, the wet snow piled upon the branches, and the trees came a tumbl'n down putting tens of thousands of customers out of power, including us. We do have a generator in our system fortunately that automatically kicks in within 10 seconds of losing power, so we were unaware of the overnight activities until we awoke Saturday morning to a loud sound outside (the generator) and some rather bright surroundings. It was simply beautiful, and you can just imagine my first impulse! This is one of the results of that first impulse and was taken from our read deck as the sun was making its presence known. Note by that comment that this was a rare snowstorm in that after the snow fell the clouds parted, instead of remaining for days on end, and the blue skies allowed for the sun to make for us a magical wonderland. This image is subtle, with the effect of the sunlight affecting the trees in the background with those in the foreground still not experiencing the sunlight. I played around with it to try and make the sunlight more significant, but in the end I couldn't much improve on perfection and left it alone except for a little cropping of some open sky at the very top.
