30 Aug 12. In my youth Carroll's was the big jeweler in the greater Seattle area. Like all enterprises, it reached its peak, died off, and is no longer. All that remains of it is their signature piece of statuary in the form of a large time piece. I hadn't seen it in decades until we paid a visit to the Museum of History and Industry last fall with one of the local camera clubs. There it was, adorning the entrance to the museum. It was however a typical Seattle day with dreary gray clouds and scattered rainfall. I took a few shots of it with the idea that I might later be able to do something with them. Today's highly altered submission (I did a lot of manipulation to see if I could do it successfully) is one in which I swapped out the gray sky for a more pleasant one, brought out the lovely texture in the weathering metal body, accented the gold, and turned on the lights in the "lanterns" and globes. This is how I think I remember seeing it as a child in the evenings although the lighting in the sky would have been darker at that time (evening).
